THE MOST HOLY FATHER JOHN PAUL II
PRAYS FOR EXPEDITION AND DR. SCHMITZ

50000 miles round- the-world fundraising helicopter expedition
departs from the Portifico Oratorio di San Pietro, near Vatican City

The Global-Heli-Art-Tour (round-the-world fundraising helicopter expedition) aims to promote and raise funds for the Kinderbaum Foundation. This Swiss non-profit organization is supported by the international art community.

Proceeds from the auction of donated artworks will finance the construction of orphanages in developing nations.
According to the foundation´s statute, the orphanage staff should be multiethnic and religiously diverse. A Safari Lodge will support the pilot orphanage in Mpumalanga, South Africa, and provide the children with professional skills.

Founder Dr. Michael Schmitz introduced the project to the general public at the 49th Venice Biennale, 2001. During this event, he displayed an 18-meter wide leafless steel tree wrapping his personal helicopter, which will be used for the Global-Heli-Art-Tour. The artwork was placed between spaces reserved for artists Richard Serra and Vanessa Beecroft.
Every art and money donation was attached to the steel branches and made the tree bloom with symbolic leaves by the end of the Venice Biennale.

Guests were also invited to bring their own artwork to the event, so that they could post their own personal leaf on one of these Biennale branches. The founder and president of the Kinderbaum Foundation, Dr. Dr. Michael Schmitz, M.D. D.M.D., German dentist for cosmetic dentistry and implantology, living and working in Rome, conducted the solo-flight over 50,000 nautical miles (90,000 km) with his own helicopter, an R-44.

Schmitz also personally provided for all the tour expenses, so that all proceeds from the art donations could go completely to the Foundation.

The tour was divided into four legs.

This part of the tour, started in Rome, crossed the following countries at these dates: July 22nd - Greece July 25th - Turkey July 26th - Syria July 27th - Lebanon July 28th - Jordan July 29th - Saudi Arabia July 31st - Kuwait August 3rd - Bahrain August 5th - Qatar August 6th - U.A.E. Italiano Spedizione di 50.000 miglia in elicottero attorno
al mondo per raccolta di fondi

Partenza dal Pontificio Oratorio di San Pietro (vicino al Vaticano)
Via Santa Maria Mediatrice, 24
22 luglio 2002, 9.00 - 12.00
Evento pubblico aperto a tutti

Il Santo Padre Giovanni Paolo II
prega per la spedizione e il Dott. Schmitz

Seconda tappa: Australia inverno 2002
Terza tappa: Nord e Sud America 2003
Quarta tappa: Africa ed Europa 2004
